2015 Piano Contest The final movement of this Sonata has a brief introduction, then takes off in a non-stop flurry of arpeggiated, symmetrical, topographically-mirrored chords in contrary motion. The model here is the final Presto from Chopin's Sonata in Bb minor. The effect is a kind of rapid Minimalism, but with more rapid contrasts of colour than typical modern Minimalist piano. The duration is a bit over four minutes. It is best NOT to use the pedal at ALL, as the chords change so rapidly that there is no real need: the continuity will be there! Not a fast version of the 2nd slow movement, but a unique set of chords that provide min-min, maj-maj, aug-aug contrasts and combinations. MP3 MIDI audio. Advanced level at tempo, could be played considerably slower, for a different but manageable effect. MBB
