Have you ever planned a playdate? It's all about having FUN, capriciously, but knowing who is going to be where and when they will be there, right? Well, here we have a Capriccio just as meticulously well-planned as any children's outing, and possibly as much FUN.
Here is the musical itinerary. Intervals, mirrored in both key color and contrary motion, are presented, with time signatures and number of measures to match. Nine measures of 9ths, in 9/8 time, eight measures of octaves in 8/8, etc. When we get to the 3rds, there doesn't seem like enough time for any real fun, so we multiply the number of measures required by that same number, 3 X 3, and get 9, similarly for the seconds, 2 X 2 = 4. When the 1/2 steps arrive, we have ONE measure, up, and one measure down, smack in the middle of the structure! After that, a summary of the musical events so far.
Then, its through the whole structure again but BACKWARDS this time, with the intervals getting larger, while the time signatures and number of measures shrink in the reverse order as they began.

Another summary at the end concludes a fun day the the Sonic Playground. This piece is marked Advanced due to the size of some of the repeating intervals, and the shifting meters. The lack of a traditional sense of melody or harmony adds to the abstract nature of the music. Yet, anyone with intermediate technique and an adventurous mindset will do fine with this piece! Pedal more often than indicated for a smoother, less dry, sound, or to aid in the execution of the larger intervals. Approx duration just under 4 mins. Can be played faster as technique and playful intent might dictate!
