Hope of the World is made of 2 suites of songs that present messianic prophecies from the Old Testament that are referenced in the New Testament. The first 8 songs center on the birth of Christ, the last 9, Christs life and passion.

Isaiah 53 is a striking passage about the mistreatment of Messiah. Instead of a life of riches, popularity, and comfort, Messiah will be punished with piercing, bruising, and stripes (welts from lashes) not for his own misbehavior but as a substitute for the sins of others. We are told that God laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

This passage has been responsible for pointing many Jewish people to Jesus Christ as the Messiah of the Jews. One of the telling ancient traditions in the current Jewish Passover feast is the unleavened bread that is pierced in the baking in a pattern that forms rows (a striped appearance.) Jesus held up this pierced, striped unleavened bread and said, This is my body.
