In Psalm 22, David describes the pain he is feeling in the current controversy he was facing. Deliberate hyperbole was one of the figures of speech used in ancient Jewish culture (as it is used in our culture today.) Probably much of what David is describing is somewhat metaphoric.

But for Jesus on the cross, this Psalm all too real. Jesus literally lived Psalm 22 on the cross.
