Product Description

Mensa, one of the Nicolas Louis de Lacaille constellations was named for the table mountain in South Africa where Lacaille had his observatory, not for a scientific instrument like his other southern constellations. PKS0637-752 quasar is in Mensa, whose source of energy may be a supermassive black hole. To represent the black hole, place the paperback version of A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking on the black keys from Bb4 to Bb5 (or any other lightweight book of a similar size, i.e. 198 x 127 mm). You will notice that notes from B3 up to the black hole and notes down from B6 to the black hole succumb to the gravitational pull as it inexorably draws material into itself. Outside of that central zone, notes float safely. The whole note scale (pun) lends an atmosphere of mystery. Quirky Piano Solo for Early Advanced players, from 88 Constellations a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano). Performance Time 4 minutes. 7 pages. (General Instructional, 21st Century, Modern, Repertoire, Recital)
