Product Description

This exotic Late Intermediate Piano Solo calls for expressive playing. Indus was charted by Dutch explorers Pieter Dirkszoon Keyser and Frederick de Houtman on their journeys to the East Indies. Cartographer Petrus Plancius placed it on his globe and Johann Bayer on his atlas. Indus represents the people the explorers encountered on their journeys. He stands in the southern hemisphere holding a spear. The Aeolian Dominant scale starts off major but ends with the minor scale. Or you can think of it as the Aeolian scale with a raised third, or Mixolydian with a lowered sixth. The major-minor juxtaposition gives it an exotic sound. It is used in Indian music where is is known as raga Charukesi. From 88 Constellations a collection by Heather Cattanach featuring one piece of piano music for each of the 88 constellations (to match the number of keys on a standard piano). Late Intermediate Piano Solo. Performance Time 2 minutes. 2 pages. (General Instructional, Modern, 21st Century, Repertoire, Recital)
