In the original Chaos King, it immediately dives into a really compelling syncopated rhythm that ultimately drives this entire arrangement, but with one key distinction - as much as possible, I keep a steady quarter note rhythm going against it as a sort of anchor to give the listener a distinct sense of the pulse of the arrangement, which could easily be lost without the percussive layers of Tobys original. With that anchor established, I play with that syncopation in some really fun ways, particularly in the development section where I push the dotted-8ths as far as possible before returning to clear downbeats to reground the listener.

The character and segment of the game built around him is ferocious and unpredictable, and I sought to evoke that throughout the arrangement with some really fun surprises, my favorite of which is at 3:48, where I do stabbing chords in rhythmically odd places before once again getting back on track with the beat.
