This is the Day - Tim McVittie

Composed for the 75th Anniversary of Dean Close Prep School at the request of the Headmaster Paddy Moss, this celebratory anthem is perfect for special occasions (it would work well at Easter!), starts or ends of the school / choir year. It would also make an exciting concert opener.

The piece has a fanfare like accompaniment, which works equally well on piano or organ and it's move from 4/4 to 12/8, creates an energetic tongue twister of a climax.

This 2 part anthem is written for treble voices, especially those who like a sailing melody that reaches fortissimo top Gs and As. The simple B section allows for some lyrical singing and is great to develop sight-reading skills in two parts.

The words are taken from psalm 118 v 24 and 26
This is the day the Lord has made
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

The sample recording is taken from an extended concert and therefore, as we all know can be the case with young voices, there are a couple of wrong notes, but it captures the spirit with which the piece should be sung.

If you have a choir who likes a good sing at the end of a term, this short and punchy anthem will hit the spot!
