Product Description

Ambroise Thomas composed twenty operas between 1837 and 1882. Of these, only two - Mignon and Hamlet are even remotely part of today's opera vocabulary. The opera Hamlet was inspired by Shakespeare, but is not a true depiction of his plot. The Act I Scene 2 Trombone solo is the famous scene from the play in which Hamlet meets his fathers ghost on the ramparts of Elsinore Castle. The scene opens with a short introduction. The remainder of the Prélude gives prominence to the Trombonist, whose solo is both mournful and haunting, reflecting the gloomy setting and confrontation with the ghost that is about to occur.

This solo with Piano is about 5 minutes in length and suitable for advanced performers.
