Product Description

Lady Catherine Ogle is an English Country Dance tune that made its first appearance in the supplement to the 7th edition of Playford's Dancing Master, which was published in 1687. The structure is AA'BB'; the repeats are written out. I've arranged this tune as a duo and added slight melodic alterations, which is common performance practice for this dance music when themes are repeated. The restatement of the A theme is in the second part, beginning an octave higher. The B theme is in the top part throughout. Lady Catherine Ogle can be played on two violins or flute (recorder) and violin. In the audio sample provided here, the top line is played on soprano recorder, which sounds an octave higher than written, but it is also effective on tenor recorder. Lady Catherine Ogle makes a beautiful and unique wedding processional and could combine effectively with other music from the Romantic Playford series. Lady Catherine Ogle will also be enjoyed by the student seeking an interesting recital piece that is not out of reach for the young violinist.
