Product Description

Here is an upbeat, cheerful piano solo arrangement of the traditional Mexican carol "Para Pedir Posada" (generally translated as "Asking for a place to stay at the inn"). This song is an important part of the Christmas celebrations in Spanish-speaking Latin American countries, mainly Mexico. This intermediate piano solo is an enjoyable instrumental selection for use during the Christmas season and adds a Spanish flavor to the other traditional carols used during the holidays. Duration 2:45

A page is included showing an English translation of the lyrics. Since there is no official English translation for this song, the lyrics have been loosely translated by Sharon Wilson to give an idea of the song's theme, adjusting phrasing so the lyrics fit the melody. The lyrics for this song reenact the story of Mary and Joseph arriving in Bethlehem and asking for a place to stay at the Inn. The carol is sung by two groups; one group outside the door asking for a place to stay and the second group inside the house responding. Only the first verse is included below (the original includes many verses and at the end, there is rejoicing because the Inn Keeper lets them in).

GROUP 1
Please, may we stay with you, dear keeper of the inn?
We've traveled all day long and need a place to sleep.
Mary, my wife, is pregnant with a child.
She needs a place to rest,
Oh, won't you let us in?
Please, let us in.

GROUP 2
No, you can't stay with us, I have no room for you.
I do not know you and doubt your story is true.
You may be thieves and then just run away.
Find someplace else to stay.
Go! Go away right now, go away right now!

This arrangement is one of the 14 songs in the collection "Christmas Favorites from Around the World."
