Product Description

Luigi Boccherinis Passacalle from his String Quintet in C Major, No 6, Op 30 La Musica Notturna Delle Strade di Madrid arranged for two guitars.

The music reminds me of music I heard played by Tunas (small bands of student musicians) in the streets and plazas in the evenings during my years in Madrid. It is a beautiful lively little piece and is featured in the movie Master and Commander soundtrack. The repetitive chord progression that is the basis of the piece gives it a definite folk music character reminiscent of the Mexican folk tune La Bamba!

For the first guitar, the arrangement contains several sequences of a Flamenco rasqueado (strumming) technique called Abanico (fan) where the thumb and middle finger of the right hand whirl lightly in a fanning strumming motion over the strings to create continuous sounding chords. The arrangement must be played at least at Presto (160 bpm) or near Presto for the Abanico strumming to sound continuous! The second guitar plays repetitive sequences of broken chords to accompany the strumming and melodic parts for the first guitar.

The arrangement is aimed at guitar duos consisting of players of different skill levels, the first guitar played by a player of at least advanced intermediate competence whereas the second guitar could be played by a less skilled player (beginner-intermediate). An excellent combination would be a duo consisting of a teacher for the first guitar and a student for the second guitar.

The arrangement also makes for an excellent short encore following a program for Classical Guitar Duo.
