Product Description

This concert band arrangement of the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar's haunting theme from Francis Ford Coppola's movie masterpiece makes an excellent addition to a Halloween- or film-themed concert. The arrangement is faithful to the original work, being thematically straightforward but demanding adequate power and control of the high and low registers from tubas' low E to flutes' high B. The choir is replaced by instruments, but a solo soprano voice is included and notated also in the oboe part in case a singer is not available.

"The Beginning" is the first piece of the film's soundtrack. It is set as a background to the origin story of Vlad Dracula, who is seen leaving home to fight a bloody campaign against the Ottoman Turks in 1462. After returning from battle, he is told that his wife has committed suicide after hearing false reports of her husband's death. Priests tell Dracula that her wife is damned to Hell for committing suicide. Furious, Dracula curses the church, strikes the stone cross in the chapel, drinks the blood pouring from it, and becomes a vampire.
