Product Description
This instrumental version of Toto's AFRICA is designed for band directors who have smaller ensembles and/or want to have a piece on which their guitar (opt), ukulele (opt), and percussionists can all play with some winds and strings. The arrangement times out at 4 minutes. It is scored for 2 flutes, trumpet, 2 violins (can be single or multiple players on each part), piano, ukulele, guitar, bass, xylophone, drum kit, AND 5 additional but optional hand percussion parts.
Included with the score and parts is a playing percussion score so that less experienced percussion readers can see when the others are playing and when to come in next. The individual percussions parts are, of course, in the set as well.
While not for beginners, this arrangement can be played by intermediate level musicians. More experienced players might have to play the iconic "Africa riff" so I have put it in a number of the parts. That way it is always heard as it would be noticed by the audience if it wasn't there. I have used this arrangement in middle and hig school with great success over the past 8 years. The vamp at the beginning can be fun to feature the percussionists. I once did a performance where the principal, and several administrators covered the percussion parts and the audience loved it! Since they were not musicians, not even close, I had to physically cue them in and out whilr we played it. Those parts are repetitive on purpose! Enjoy!
PLEASE NOTE: The score is formatted for "tabloid" (11x17) paper and the parts are set in "letter size" (8.5x11)
