The song, dedicated to singer-songwriter Elisa Toffoli's grandfather, was not initially part of the album Pearl Days, but was included there only in the second edition released
in April 2005. In fact, the first edition of the album contained only the English version of the song, entitled Life Goes On, which
instead tells the story of his family.
The transition from the English to the Italian version is not a true translation: although the two songs have the identical instrumental base and the two lyrics even share some phrases, for example but the season changes, there will be new roses and but the season will change, there will be new roses, they have a completely different content. She tells the reason for this passage herself, I made the decision following the death of my grandfather, an incredible man who managed to walk back from Germany after being imprisoned in a lager and who always taught us a lot of things. The song was included in the Soundtrack '96-'06 collection, the live Soundtrack '96-'06 Live, the American collection Dancing (in the English version Life Goes On) and the album Ivy (in a rearranged acoustic version). It is Elisa's third single in Italian (the second of which she is a songwriter), following the hits Luce (sunsets in the northeast) in 2001 and Almeno tu nell'universo in 2003. The song opens the film Scrivilo sui muri by Giancarlo Scarchilli.

La canzone, dedicata al nonno della cantautrice Elisa Toffoli, inizialmente non faceva parte dell'album Pearl Days, ma vi fu inserita solo nella seconda edizione pubblicata
nell'aprile del 2005. Infatti la prima edizione dell'album conteneva solo la versione in inglese della canzone, dal titolo Life Goes On ("La vita va avanti"), che
racconta invece la storia della sua famiglia.
Il passaggio dalla versione inglese a quella italiana non è una vera e propria traduzione: nonostante i due brani abbiano la base strumentale identica e i due testi condividano addirittura alcune frasi, per esempio «but the season changes, there will be new roses» e «ma cambierà stagione, ci saranno nuove rose», essi hanno un contenuto completamente diverso. Il motivo di questo passaggio lo racconta lei stessa: «La decisione l'ho presa in seguito alla morte di mio nonno, un uomo incredibile che riuscì a tornare a piedi dalla Germania dopo essere stato recluso in un lager e che ci ha sempre insegnato un sacco di cose. Il suo è stato sempre un messaggio di vita, e questo volevo rappresentare».
Il brano è stato incluso nella raccolta Soundtrack '96-'06, nel live Soundtrack '96-'06 Live, nella raccolta americana Dancing (nella versione in inglese Life Goes On) e nell'album Ivy (in versione acustica riarrangiata). È il terzo singolo in italiano di Elisa (il secondo di cui è autrice), dopo i successi di Luce (tramonti a nord est) del 2001 e di Almeno tu nell'universo del 2003. La canzone apre il film Scrivilo sui muri di Giancarlo Scarchilli.
