This folk tune from the late 19th century underscores the opposing forces (Turks and the Russians) in the war of 1877-78. It is a ballad that tells the story of the duel between Abdullah Bulbul Ameer and Ivan Petruski Skivar who epitomized the "bad blood" between these two countries. Both were champions of their respective countries with one participant underestimating his victory and getting killed in the process. This tune is a ballad in the strongest sense of the word, telling a story in "ballad" meter about a heroic battle between opposing forces. Three verses of the six verses are presented here in the event the pianist would like to sing along while playing and summarizes the story sense of the tale.
