Challinor was a 19th/20th century son of a Methodist lay minister, laborer, teacher, and composer from Strafforshire, England. The text was supplied by William H. Parker of Nottingham, England. Parker was a poet and composer as well as a contemporary of Challinor. His song expresses the desire to hear the narratives of Jesus Christ as well as to enter into the presence of the Savior. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the help of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is added beginning a section C.
