Product Description

These two songs appeared in 1588 in Byrd's collection Psalms, Sonnets and Songs. They are in 5 parts, the instrumentation not specied. The rst is a funeral lament for the prominent military and literary hero Sir Philip Sidney. The second is of unrequited love. DURATION: 7 minutes

INSTRUMENTATION: originally 5 voices or instruments: I have used one voice (Tenor or Baritone range D up to G) with string quartet.
SOURCES & PERMISSIONS: My souces are London Pro Musica Edition No 369 (which for some reason gives only the rst verse of the rst song) and Choral Wiki which gives all six. For Of Gold, I used Choral Wiki. It was rst published in Songs of Sundrie Natures, Thomas East Press, 1589.

TECHNICAL NOTE: I changed one or two words whose meanings would not mean anything to a modern ear. I moved one syllable. I try to make all parts suitable for printing on both sides (easy turns)
GRAPHIC Byrd and one of his mss.
