The familar tune of What Child Is This has been woven into Mendelssohn's Venetian Boat Song, Op. 30, No. 6. The first verse keeps the rocking bass pattern in the left hand. In the second verse, the melody moves to the inner voice, then breaks into a joyful chorus with a high trill in measure 42. Finally, the chorus repeats in the inner voice and ends thoughtfully in the high treble.

A suitable piece for an early advanced student. Fingering is included in the score.
