Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 5 in D Major from Book 1 of The Well Tempered Clavier. This includes a fleet prelude and a brief but unusual fugue apparently inspired by the "French overture" genre. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and also arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also availale on this website). The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.
