Product Description

W. A. Mozart, Menuetto from Symphony no. 40 (K. 550)
arranged for Bassoon Quartet by G. Horn

Mozart is considered one of the greatest melody-writers in musical history, and this Menuetto from his 40th Symphony is a great example of this.

The movement explores an angry and robust G minor theme. Although it is titled as a Minuet, the use of hemiola and three bar phrases would have made the movement quite difficult to dance to, something which certainly would have amused playful Mozart! We then have the contrast in the trio section with a softer, sweeter G major theme before returning to our Minuet once more.

Mozart has always been a favourite composer of mine and the rambunctious nature of the piece works fantastically well for bassoon quartet! I hope you will enjoy playing it as much as I have.

Duration: 4 mins approx. Original key. Score and parts included. Can also be performed by trombone quartet.

This arrangement was originally written for Genovia Quartet in 2020 by bassoonist Gillian Horn.
