Forsaken is a 5-octave, unaccompanied marimba solo. The piece draws its inspiration from the biblical verse, Psalms 22:1 "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" and the same verse quoted by Jesus while he was on the cross in both Matthew and Mark-"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?". This is one of the last seven sayings of Christ before his death on the cross. Some will interpret this saying as words of Abandonment of the Son by the Father. God has left his son to die in pain at the hands of humanity as a sacrifice for their sins.
