Level: Great for a student recital piece; popular with college students. Very expressive and easy to personalize. Appropriate for intermediate students, but certainly challenging enough to be of interest to professionals as well.

Program notes: This work is about finding a microcosm of peace, amidst a time of worry and struggle. I always think of this being played in a patch of sun, deep amidst a forest, but I could just as easily hear it in front of a window with my favorite animal companion too; think of it played wherever your place of solace might be. Composed in 2014, this is the second in a set of three unaccompanied cello pieces (with Of City and Nature and And the Surface Breaks), and is brought to life here with vulnerability and brilliance by cellist Micah Claffey.
