I've always liked the idea of spinsters spinning in the sun, as described by one of Shakespeare's characters in Twelfth Night, so I combined this with the old Borders folklore that every spinning wheel has its own resident fairy. These habetrots aren't the ethereal Tinkerbell kind of fairy! They'll do your work - but at a price.
It's written for a mezzo soprano or baritone with piano accompaniment, with a vocal range from A below middle C, to F on the top line of the treble clef.
