"Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus" was written in 1744, and was the first of a number of Charles Wesley's hymns that became known as the "Festival Hymns". Wesley's words are set to Rowland H. Prichard's tune, "Hyfrydol". Timothy D. Hykes' upbeat arrangement uses key changes and a rhythmic bass line to invoke a joyous festival atmosphere. Sustained notes build suspense and excitement as we await Christ's promised coming.
