Christmas Time Is Here was originally a jazz instrumental composed by Vince Guaraldi for the opening of the 1965 Christmas television special A Charlie Brown Christmas. Producer Lee Mendelson liked Guaraldis melody so much that he decided to write words to go with the music. According to Mendelson, he sat down at his kitchen table and wrote the lyrics on an envelope in about ten minutes. The original vocal recording from 1965 features choristers from St. Paul's Episcopal Church in San Rafael, California. Since then, the song has become a Christmas classic.

In this arrangement for clarinet quartet, the melody remains in the Clarinet 1 part. Special attention should be paid to the rhythms and moving lines in the accompanying clarinet parts. All eighth notes should be swung except for the ones marked as duplets which should be played straight for rhythmic interest.
