It begins with the refrain of the hymn, It Is Well with My Soul in the key of A-flat major, then continues to the verse (in D-flat major). The first verse is thoughtful: "When peace like a river attendeth my way..." The melody occasionally moves between the hands. In the second verse, it build intensity: "Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come..." The key changes to B-flat major and transitions to a simpler style for the second hymn, "Does Jesus Care?" It returns to the key of D-flat for the final triumphant verse: "And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight..." It ends thoughtfully, echoing the opening phrase of the arrangement.
