Product Description

This setting of Sara Teasdale's iconic poem (published in 1918) is perfect for groups from upper level high school mixed choirs to a professional ensembles. Generous voice leading, a thought provoking text, dynamic and timbral contrasts, rich harmonies and a luscious piano part make this a welcome addition to any concert program.  Metric changes, gentle syncopations and shifting harmonies make this an excellent teaching piece as well.  Duration - 3 minutes.

An interesting cross-curriculum opportunity exists in studying the Ray Bradbury short story by the same title, published in 1951. The plot is an excellent study of irony and contrasts markedly with the more direct intentions of Teasdale's poem.

Stephen Jackson's body of works includes pieces for solo voice, choral ensembles, solo piano, chamber music, a children's opera, and  several electro-acoustic suites for digital soundscape and solo instrument. Born in New Orleans, Jackson currently resides in El Paso, TX where the stunning desert landscapes and endless expanse of sky inform a love of broadly composed works for both sacred and secular performance.
