"Waiting for the Robert E. Lee" is an American popular song which refers to the steamboat. This title was originally composed in 1912 by Lewis F. Muir and L. Wolfe Gilbert. The title was featured in the 1927 film The Jazz Singer, and later recorded by Al Jolson, Judy Garland and Benny Goodman.

Paul Paviour has been honored as a Fellow of the Australian Society of Musicology and Composition (F.A.S.M.C.). He has received the  Medal of the Order of Australia for his contribution to music and the Centenary Medal. He has been named the Director of Music Emeritus of Canberra-Goulburn diocese and the Concert Hall of Goulburn Regional Conservatorium has been named after him.
