Stephanie Martin's Dum Compleretur is a festive a capella motet for the Feast of Pentecost written for SSATBB Choir. This inspiring setting of Dum Compleretur portrays the quiet prayer of Mary and the Apostles in the Cenacle (Upper Room) at the moment the Holy Spirit descends upon them as tongues of fire.
SSATBB Choir a capella
Translation of the Latin Text:
When the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place:
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming,
and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them:
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. Alleluia.
--Acts 2:1-4

Reviews
When someone says "new music," most people imagine something abstract or conceptual, probably dissonant and experimental...Martin is a great tone painter who serves her texts with great attention to detail while also drawing the us along in a broader musical narrative...Martin, who was director of music at Torontos Church of St Mary Magdalene for several years, is particularly effective in setting texts with a devotional bent.
