A beautiful theme by Claude Debussy "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" has been designed to function as a solo unaccompanied clarinet solo. Following the theme are 4 different original variations in different characters in the same key. They are of different difficulties and increase in difficulty resulting in the brilliant finale variation with the theme elaborated. A performer might play the theme only, or play all or select variations. The idea of the variations on the theme is influenced by Eyck's Fluyten Lusthof, a famous collection of theme and variations. A comfortable key has been chosen for ease of playing. Duration is about 7 minutes when playing the theme and all variations.
