This piece has been performed around the world, many times at graduation ceremonies. The world premiere performance was at Case High School for Racine Unified School District's Area Choral Festival on March 25, 2010, with the composer at the piano, and Kayla's oboe teacher (Suzanne Geoffrey) playing the oboe.
The studio recording was done the same day as surprising Kayla with the composition, with Eric, Kayla, and another daughter, Rachel, singing all the parts a few times each. Kayla played the oboe part, which was then revised slightly prior to the world premiere.
