Product Description

Following the spectacular success of Oklahoma in 1943, Rodgers and Hammerstein were eager to collaborate on a second musical. Based on a play by Ferenc Molnár, Carousel opened on Broadway in 1945 and was an immediate hit. Rodgers had decided to dispense with an overture, feeling that the music was always hard to hear over the noise of latecomers settling themselves. He determined to plunge the audience into the action right from the beginning by opening with a pantomime scene accompanied by what became known as "The Carousel Waltz". This brilliant, ravishingly tuneful waltz has become one of Rodgers' most beloved works and it is given full justice in this gorgeous arrangement for string quartet. The file includes all four parts and full score.
