Ae Fond Kiss Rabbie
Burns (Robert Burns)
'Mo run an diugh mar an dé thu' (My
Love Today as Heretofore)
Arranged for solo Guitar by Dan Jones
Ae Fond Kiss is perhaps the most popular love song by the great Scottish poet
Robert Rabbie Burns.
The poem (its full
title being Ae Fond Kiss and then we sever) is usually sung to the
melody set here; the traditional Scottish tune 'Mo run an diugh mar an dé
thu'.
The text of the poem was inspired
by Burns friendship with Agnes Maclehose of Edinburgh. Burns wrote the poem
for her in 1791 when she left Edinburgh to join her husband in Jamaica.
The beautiful words tell of the
sadness of parting, and it is this sentiment that the player should try to
communicate when performing Ae Fond Kiss.
A video of the arranger performing the piece will be uploaded before the end of May 2021.
