The Holly and the Ivy, arranged for String Quartet by Tim Crooks (STR:UK Strings).
This old English carol is an essential addition to any Christmas collection. With a hint of 'Blackbird' by the Beatles, this arrangement suitable for Intermediate level (ABRSM grade 4-5) and upwards. There are some passages in higher positions and syncopated rhythms.
A String Orchestra version of this arrangement is also available (please note this is in a different key).
About the arranger
Tim Crooks trained as a violinist and violist, working professionally in Manchester (UK) for many years. He was a founding member of the Manchester String Quartet and scored many arrangements for the group's recordings. Tim now orchestrates and conducts, working with orchestras including Manchester Camerata, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Philharmonia.
