This much loved song dates from 1972 and caused a bit of a stir. It was the first Carpenters hit composed by Richard Carpenter & John Bettis, it was also the first Carpenters song which featured a distorted guitar solo. This was played by Tony Peluso, it became a very important part of this song. Whilst it would be foolish to try and recreate this, there is a short solo towards the end purely as acknowledgement of how important it was, to the songs success.
