"The Little Bud Car That Could" is a story about a train that ran from Victoria to Courtenay on Vancouver Island. The piece portrays the movement of the train with staccato eighth notes throughout. There is also a section where the young musician is asked to play "col legno" The technique is used to express the sound of the railroad ties. A great piece for a young orchestra.
