A tip of the compositional hat to Muzio Clementi, of course - generations of pianists, myself included, have grown up on those gems of his Op. 36. But there is more here: influences from Bach and Vivaldi to Bartok and Prokofieff can be found in these insouciant little ditties.

Written in 2015, these Sonatinas were originally conceived for the clavichord but (fortunately for their marketability) they certainly work on the piano too, so long as a smallness of scale can be forgiven. Keyboard ranges are narrower than the piano allows, textures are thinner, and gestures more spare. Still, there is plenty here to keep the mind and fingers busy, if not completely bewildered. (They do require a player of at least intermediate ability.)

The longest is only eight minutes; the shortest is under six. Any of them would make a nice filler on a recital program and it is difficult to imagine audiences being harmed by them.
