Here's something slightly different for your string orchestra! The traditional carol begins with a "bleak" minor section before warming in the legato second verse. It then modulates to A for a triumphant third verse and fades to nearly nothing at the end. Fairly simple to play, yet the lush harmonies and carefully chosen dynamics make this a feast for the soul. With a school orchestra the only technical challenge appears near the end, in the first violin and cello parts, followed by sustained harmonics in the muted final section.
