Product Description

New music for an ancient dance! This evocative slow belly dance tune is composed for solo violin and can be accompanied by an improvising drummer familiar with belly dance rhythms. Raqs Julia is composed as a veil dance in the classic American cabaret belly dance "rumba bolero" style and is named in honor of a prominent Southern California dancer and costume designer. This music will also be enjoyed by violinists interested in exploring world music genres. Looking to play more original music for belly dance? Check out my other compositions: (1) Muse Dance: Original Belly Dance Music; (2) Songs from Euterpe, an anthology which includes the Muse Dance tunes; (3) Theodora, a lively beledi tune; (4) Full Bloom Beledi; (5) Gemma, a veil dance; (6) Leah, a veil dance; (7) Laleh, another veil dance; and (8) Raqs Rebecca, a lively dance in 4/4, beledi, with short taqsim.  About the composer: Dorothy van Joolen Barth is a violinist and recorder player. Born in Amsterdam, she now resides and performs in California. She has arranged six volumes of Celtic traditional music for two instruments and has composed three volumes of original music. She studied and performed oriental dance for several decades, which inspired her to compose this original music. Interest by dancers and musicians in these compositions will encourage her to create more!
