Product Description
The 42 tunes presented in Playford Promenade: Music for Weddings and Grand Occasions have been especially selected and arranged for ceremonial use, such as Renaissance, garden, or castle weddings; Renaissance faires; or indeed, any event that calls for a promenade! After performing for more than a decade at theme weddings and events as part of a violin/recorder duo, I was inspired to enlarge the two-part repertory for period events. In particular, I wanted to offer brides and grooms new and interesting choices for processionals and recessionals. Playfords Dancing Master (1651-ca. 1728) provided the perfect opportunity. Over the years I've enjoyed performing many Playford tunes arranged for various ensembles. The wealth of source tunes (over 500 tunes spanning 18 editions) sparked my curiosity to arrange some of these tunes as instrumental duos. English country dance enthusiasts will recognize new arrangements of some Playford favorites included in this collection (e.g., All in a Garden Green, Goddesses, and Childgrove), but many other tunes arranged here will hopefully be new to the player. The 42 tunes in this anthology can be performed on recorder and violin, flute and violin, or two violins. As an audio sample, Maiden Lane is provided here. I hope this anthology will be a resource for wedding musicians, brides and grooms, English Country Dance enthusiasts, or anyone looking for repertory for enjoyment or study. NOTE: Eight of the tunes in this anthology are available as sheet music singles (under the series Romantic Playford, followed by the individual title). These single issues may contain minor formatting differences and variations in arrangement; I offer these as violin duos.
