In this piano arrangement, Ive
tried to capture that mysterious contemplation the lyricists have so
successfully communicated. Of course, the minor tonality helps to create the
mood, but Ive also tried to paint the image of a young mother gently rocking
her newborn infant. Dont rush or overpower the simplicity of the gentle
melody.
As an arranger, I couldnt ignore the emphatic statement
that concludes the piece - "This sleeping Child Youre holding / Is the great I
AM." A fiery, double-octave finale punctuates this great realization and gives
the arrangement a virtuosic finish.
