Tin Pan Alley composer Thos. S. Allen's "Big Chief Battle-Axe" is a novelty piece reflective of the two sides of the "cigar store Indian". It is a blend of early 1900's Native American caricature music (dour music in a minor key with hints of Tom-Toms) and more "big city commercial" influences (cheerful music in a major key).
