O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus is not a difficult piece, but it does involve playing octaves for much of the melody. For this reason, I would classify it as intermediate. This haunting melody is found in the Sacred Harp hymnal of the early 1800s, but Grandma claims it reminds her of the regal hymn Once to Every Man and Nation. That's because it IS the same hymn tune (Ebenezer) for both sets of lyrics. Grandma has a good ear! This piece sounds best when performed rather slowly, around 50 mm. per dotted quarter note. (Key of E minor, in 6/8 time, approximately 2:45 minutes long, and three pages) I play this hymn arrangement during Lent and for communion.
