This arrangement of "Railway Song" is one of a series of jolly and descriptive quartets (and a septet) all based on the Swabian folksong "Auf de schwäb'sche Eisebahne" (= on the Swabian railway) from the Tübinger Kommersbuch 1853 The music in this arrangement also mimics the speeding up and slowing down of the train and its whistles.
