The Violin 3 part is the same as the Viola part in case a Viola player is not available. Violin 1 carries the melody for the first verse and then the other instruments alternate the melody for verse 2. This is an excellent arrangement for a late beginner to intermediate string group since all notes on the violin and viola can be played in the first position and up to the second position for the cello.
