The Old Testament Bible book of Isaiah contains the prophecy concerning John the Baptist coming before Christ to "prepare the way." This prophecy is recorded by all four of the Gospel writers and used to show that Jesus is the Messiah. This song is a combination of the verses in Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-10 which predict "one calling in the wilderness" and John the Baptist's words declaring Jesus as the "Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" as recorded in John 1:29.

The tone begins softly and builds as it reaches the proclamation "Behold our God is coming. . .Tell the good news from the mountaintop. . .Behold the Lord comes in glory and power. . ." and concludes with John's words declaring Jesus the Lamb of God. Spanning Jesus' ministry from his birth to the final redemption of his people, this prophecy includes themes celebrated during Christmas and Easter making this beautiful praise song appropriate for any worship service throughout the year.

Written in the key of G major, the vocal range for the melody is from B below middle C to the C above. The treble staff also includes harmony notes which can be used to form a duet.
