The Secret Garden is a musical based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1991. It is the story about a 10 year old girl, Mary, who loses her parents to cholera. She is forced to move from India to England to live with relatives who are strangers to her. At her new home, she finds a garden that once was cared for by her late aunt and wants to bring it back to life.
This beautiful song can be performed for any occasion. It is scored for 4 C flutes, alto, bass, contrabass, and optional cello. Flutes 1 and 2 have a divisi in the second half of the song. If your choir does not have a contrabass, you may substitute it with another bass. The cello part can also be substituted by any C instrument in the bass clef range, such as a bassoon.
