Written January 8-12, 2022, this is a set of original piano compositions in the traditional ancient modes which I wrote at the suggestion of Carson Cooman whom I dedicated the book to. Each of the modes are written with key signatures representing the actual notes of the scales. I've used no accidentals in any of the pieces to keep the purity of each of the modes. Modes used include: Lydian, Dorian, Locrian, Phrygian, Mixolydian, and Aeolian. Ionian was omitted as it is the traditional major scale. This collection will be a valuable resource for allowing students and teachers to incorporate this many times overlooked melodic and harmonic source material used in early music. James Michael Stevens is a prolific composer residing in Nashville, TN and serves as the Music Department Chairman of Welch College.
