This is a rich and powerful setting of a familiar nativity story. The main theme is in 5/4 time (which is easier to read than people might imagine) and an extended middle section is in 3/2, 4/2 and later 3/4. Although the piece is tonal, theres some rich chromatic writing making this setting appropriate for more experienced groups of singers. The anthem contains a short a cappella section but there are no divisi sections. The piano part is of moderate difficult but could be handled by any competent pianist. The piece would make an excellent addition to any Christmas concert, Christmas service or nativity play.

The vocal ranges are as follows: Soprano: C4 - G5; Alto: B3 - D5; Tenor: D3 - E4 and Bass F2 - B3.
